Thurs. I replaced the heater core in my 88 GT with auto and air. After I ran the car to check for leaks etc. I let it run at idle until the rad fan came on at 235 as it has always done when in Phoenix summer traffic.
I filled the core before putting it in. Made sure the hoses were full also. Lost very little coolant putting hoses back on. Used cork idea I saw on this site, worked well.
Burped as instructed from Ogre's Cave. Well today the temp gage reads 100 degrees while driving on the Freeway a 70 mph and it was 65 degrees outside. I let it idle till the rad fan came on and now the temp gage reads 205 when the fan comes on. The temp coming out of the driver side heater vent near the floor read 195 at the moment the rad fan came on. What happened to the gage? It just happened to go bad right after the core change? Over flow is full, level at engine fill is full. When you first start the car cold the gage pointer is way up on the left past the top the graphics. I don't remember seeing it in that position before.By the way this car has 10,700 miles on it an the coolant was changed ever other year. So much for low mileage cars. Time still gets them in the end. Would appreciate all responses.

THANKS!
