A long block is an engine block with complete head assemblies attached and all it's internal components. The prices they are quoting seem reasonable if this is what they are trying to sell you. You basically are getting a new engine without all the external stuff like intake manifold, valve covers, oil pan, water pump, etc. At least this is what I remember. A short block is just the engine block with the crank bearings, and pistons. Hope this helps.

I have a good used complete long block engine '84 Duke (with distributor) I purchased off ebay and no longer need.

I am putting in a different motor for autocrossing instead.

I will sell it for $200 if you pick it up in Fresno.

I will give you a money back guarantee, if for some reason it doesn't run decent, you bring it back and I will refund the money. (within reasonable time limit, say three months)

I also have most of the accessories, intake, and exhaust for it if you want them, no extra charge, but the only throttle body I have is missing parts.

Let me know if you are interested.

THAT is the deal of the day. Wish I lived near the left coast. You're a good man, Shark.

It might only cost about $150 to ship it, just guessing though.
