Help me on this one and I'll leave everyone alone.

I finally got the drivers side headlight motor to work and go down all the way (although it takes the pressure from the headlight door to do it). For some reason, the triangular shaped cam was somehow missing the rear stop (headlights down), flipping the cam just enough to actually keep the headlight up slightly. (No freakin' idea how that happened.)

Now, when the headlight is down, I can hear a few faint clicks. When looking at the knob, I can see that (when it clicks) it moves the knob ever so slightly in the open direction, pauses for about 7 seconds, then clicks again as it tries to move it in the closed direction. About a second pause then starts this cycle all over again.

What's the cure? Do I need a new torque limiting switch? Or is there something else I'm missing? I will eventually be going to non popups when I have the money to make them, but I'd like the stock headlights to work in the mean time without draining my battery (as I'm sure it's doing as it tries to move).

Like I said, if someone can find a cure for this, I'll quit asking questions. Sorry to start a new post, but very few were responding to my other headlight post.

Hey MM!
Your motors are fried?
If the motor doesn't cut your fingers off going up or down, they need work or replacement...
When they work they are pure torque!
As to the limit switches, they could be out of adjustment...
Or need replacement...
Get a rebuild kit, Rodney has those?
Rebuild your motors and forget converting, as they will be like new!
crash...

The passenger side motor is a little slow but fine (never been opened). The drivers side has just been rebuilt and is working properly (tried it in the car but not mounted) but has the above problem(s). It has plenty of torque as it will go up and down. I can't wait until I have the money for non popups. These are too much of a PITA for me.

If it is an 87 or 88 the motors are easy to rebuild. Its just three round plasic pieces you replace, and cheap too. I dont know about the earlier style.

Sounds to me like it's missing the stops as it goes down, and may be doing the same thing in the up position and is not noticable. The stops are located on the motor shaft on the outside where they can be seen. By missing the stops there is not enough torque generated tho completly shut the circut down inside the motor. Are they both doing this or just the one side?

Keith--What stops? "On the motor shaft on the outside"? The only side that's doing this is the drivers side that I just rebuilt. PM or email me your number (I lost it) and I'll pull the motor (again--I'm getting pretty fast at that) and give you a shout.

recluse--Earlier style motors and it's already been rebuilt but thanx.

Morning took a long time coming today, Sorry!
This is a shot of the position of the mechanical arm in the closed position against the stop. (lower stop)

This is in the open position against the upper stop.

There should be a small plastic piece that goes over the frame at both stops. It is a rather hard piece of plastic. If that piece is missing, you can have some problems from it being gone.
Hope this helps!

Thanx, Keith, but that's just what mine looks like both open and closed. I'll break open the case again and clean and re grease every thing one more time. Maybe I missed a chunk of crap in there.
