Dont feel bad, After using a screwdriver to try to pry open the fuel door on my first fiero, I read the owners manual which plainly said "DO NOT PRY ON THE FUEL DOOR!!!" And I am the Manager of a Body Shop and my Dad(who was helping me pry) has been a Auto Mechanic for 40 yrs.!!!!!!!!!!! Now you know that your not alone.

The fuel door's pretty easy. It took me four days after buying my first Fiero, with no owners manual, to figure out how to open the hood to check the spare tire.Clever place to hide the release.

It was a two hour drive back home from where I bought my Fiero. I had to stop for gas on the way home. Man did I look like an idiot standing in the gas station looking for that stupid latch.
I did not feel so bad 2 weeks later when I had to get the emission test. I watched through the garage window has three experienced mechanics all searched the car for at least 20 minutes trying to figure out how to open it. I could have just told them but I just watched and laughed my ass off the whole time.

I kinda felt foolish after buying my Fiero, because I didn't know where the fuel release lever was till I noticed that the previous owner didn't either, the latch on the door was broken open, and now I need a new one.

In my opinion, I own the 2 hardest cars there are to find the latch for the fuel door-the Fiero and the Miata.

Although, now that I think about it, I borrowed a friends Olds '98 once and had trouble finding how to open the fuel door. I think it was in the glove box!

Same thing here!

My first fiero bought it at Faulkner (about 18 miles from where I live). I paid 7999.00 for the car back in 1988 and the guys couldn't even fill the tank (the thing was on "E").

There I sat in Lancater at a gas station looking all over for how to release that damn door and couldn't find it. Some older guy along with 3 others waiting for gas behind me even helped (impatient people). Well the older guy ended up locating it after about 5 minutes of searching everywhere on the car. They all chuckled after words I fill it up and off I drove feeling like a complete moron!

My dad had a 1958 Olds 98 that you had to flip the tailight fin over to get to the fuel cap.

The tach and speedo are supposed to be like that with the motor off. Turn the key on. You'll see them drop to "0". I'm not sure what kind of "fin" you have. There were only 2 factory options. Either a GT/Indy style spoiler or a luggage rack. The luggage rack had a little winglet thing on it. All '84s and '85s (with anything but an AM radio or radio delete option) had speakers in the headrests. '86s and up relocated the speakers to the sail panels.

My 73 porsche 911 has the fuel door release where the hood pull usually is which is hard enough to figure out but, What was really hard to figure out is there is an identical door on both front fenders, one is fuel fill and one is oil fill and neither was marked when I bought the car. I finally figured it out after I filled the oil tank up with premium unleaded! I'm a professional screw-up.

My 88GT is the same way. The previous owner must of gotten desperate and used a key or something to get the door open. I have a couple of small chips on the bottom of the door!
At first I couldn't figure out how an otherwise perfect paint/body work could have chips in that one spot till I read this post.

You learn so much here !!

Like how a 69 Corvette Stingray has it? One problem though, we have an engine in the way.
