    Remove gas cap and take out the screws in the back. The gas cover and the "bucket" that surrounds the filler tube comes out together.
    Don't lose the spring.

    Also, you'll have to carefully remove the wire/cable that is connected to the remote handle inside the passenger compartment.

    After taking out the screws that hold the bucket in. Remove the screw for the door release. Pull it in a bit then pop the plastic cover door on the backside to disconnect the cable.

    Why not paint it while it is on the car? Just be sure to mask it off properly.
