Way back in 87 I worked for a Pontiac dealership and drove Fiero GT's for company cars. Not knowing 88 would be the last year for Fiero's, I ordered my dream car. It was a bright red 87 GTA Trans Am with a Tuned Port 305, 5-speed manual, and 3.45 performance axle ratio. It took 12 weeks to get there because of the 5-speed but what a great car!

After It was broken in I ran it against my 87 GT 5-speed Fiero demo. It was no contest at the GTA pulled the Fiero easily in straight line acceleration. However, it was also no contest on Scenic Drive here in El Paso. This is a two lane road that winds around the mountain in the middle of the city. The Fiero's independent suspension would leave the GTA's live axle behind on the bumpy off camber corners.

I'll miss the F-body when its gone, but I still have my dinosaur F-car. 1972 HO-455 Trans Am! Wanna Race????

COOL! I also had a 72 Trans Am! I'm surprised to see 3 owners on here that had(have) them, considering how rare they are.

I sold mine to finance my college education. I still regret that decision to this day. Mine was white with a blue strip, automatic, A/C, AM/FM - 8 track. Gods, miss that car. And the solenoids on the shaker still worked!

I traded in my first Fiero, a white 85 GT that I had purchased new, for an 88 Firebird Formula. This happened just before they cancelled the Fiero. DOH!!
My first clue that this was a bad move was when the "check engine" light came on while I was driving it home.

What was the HP on that 305? The Gta's with 350's woould have beat a Fiero. I have not seen a stock 305 that could out pull a fiero. Check the stats the 1/4 and 0 to 60 Fiero wins. Did you mean GTA with a 350? I think that years 305 TPI topped at 170hp! The 305 TBI in that time frame was like 205 hp. When you factor in the wieght its not that much diffrence in power to wieght.

I didn't want to mention that , but I was thinking it

I have a motortrend roadtest of a 305 TPI Bird with a 5spd , 0 to 60 in 7.5 seconds , 1/4 in 15.5

The fastest F body of that generation I believe was the 1LE Iroc with high 5's to 60 and mid 14's in the 1/4 (other than the turbo F bodiy in late 80's)
