I have a problem
I have a light smoke you can barely tell its there its just barely visable. any way
i just noticed it today looking in my rearview miror. its coming out of the decklid vent above the battery but i opened the lid and it looked like it was coming from all over.
near the valve covers and up around the intake im not sure if thats where its coming from b/c after awile it just stops.
and for the last couple of days my car smells like somthing is burning. And im not sure what it would be.
any ideas on any of my problems?

Give it a good engine cleaning at the quarter car wash! Approximated cost: $3.00!

Does the smoke smell like oil? Plastic? Exhaust? As Indy suggested, wash the engine. Then look closely for oil and coolant leaks. Places like valve covers, oil pressure switch, thermostat housing, etc. Also check out things like wiring that might be too close to exhaust manifolds, etc.

Well i was told not to do that b/c of all the wireing thats near the engine.
And im not sure what it smells like it just smells like somthing burning.
So is it ok to wash the engine?
I do have oil around my valve covers.
but can it get so hot there that it would smoke?
i checked it out and there was none on the exhaust manifold.

thanks for the info guys

If it would hurt the engine to get wet, there wouldnt be those huge holes next to it that arent covered....ya know, the heat vents? water has a tendency to go through the large openings...ive taken a hose to a running engine many times, it dosent hurt as long as the engine isnt HOT and the water isnt COLD

I've been a mechanic of sorts for 25 years and have always started major projects by washing the engine down, sometimes a couple of times so that I stay cleaner. The only time this caused a problem was when the ignition wires or distributor cap was bad. If washing your engine causes the engine to miss or not start, you should have done a tune-up anyway. This also makes things run cooler, or at least it seems that way. Usually if you have a valve cover seeping, you can't see the oil on the manifolds. It burns off from around the exhaust ports on the heads too.
