I did some searching about the Check Engine light and I only found how to fix some problems, people were talking about code this, code that. I don't know what they mean by all these codes.

The reason I'm asking is because mine comes on when I'm going over 80km/hr sometimes, not ALL the time, just sometimes. And when I am going at that speed and it comes on, I'll put the car in neutral shut it off, wait 5 seconds, then turn the car back on (all while still moving) and the light doesn't come on again.

What could be the problem and how can it be fixed? How do I know what code it is and how to fix it?

Dash out and get a Haynes manual it explaines the whole thing in the emissions section.

Pull the cover panel from the cigarette lighter area (two torx head screws). Bend a paperclip into a U shape and put one end in each of the bottom right holes of the ECM connector. (bottom, passenger side). Turn the ignition switch to ON, don't start the car. Now watch the check engine light. It should blink-pause-blink-blink (that is a code 12 which is what the ECM spits out to start the sequence). It will put out this code 12 3 times. Then, the error codes, if any are stored, will begin. Note the number of flashes/pauses. Each code is flashed 3 times. At the end you will see another set of three code 12's.

So, say you have a bad EGR code (32) stored in your ECM. Short out the pins on the ECM connector, put the switch in the ON position. You will see:
blink-pause-blink-blink (12) LONG PAUSE
blink-pause-blink-blink (12) LONG PAUSE
blink-pause-blink-blink (12) LONG PAUSE
blink-blink-blink-pause-blink-blink (32) LONG PAUSE
blink-blink-blink-pause-blink-blink (32) LONG PAUSE
blink-blink-blink-pause-blink-blink (32) LONG PAUSE
blink-pause-blink-blink (12) LONG PAUSE
blink-pause-blink-blink (12) LONG PAUSE
blink-pause-blink-blink (12) LONG PAUSE and the whole sequence starts over. Copy down whatever codes you have there and then go and look them up a several different places on the Internet -- one such place is at http://www.euronet.nl/users/fo_elmo/techno.htm

Read the code like they told you. I'll bet that if you are running a 6 cyl, your EGR sol. is not working properly. No big deal usually. Post what code is flashing and what engine you have. Then yoou will get some good answers. Or, I'll give you $50 dollars for the car and even pick it up. LOL. Just kidding.

More than likely your EGR valve. No big deal. $30 or so for an AC Delco one.

But, do check the codes first.

Code 32 EGR system somewhere, probably a vacuum leak, if EGR solinoid and valve are good. Those rubber vacuum lines are leaking.
