A couple days ago I drove my car(88GT, Automatic trans) for about 20 miles. Stopped at a red light car died. Starts right up but stalls when I put it in gear. After letting it sit awhile It ran fine for about another 15 miles. Then started running a little rough for about 1 mile, when I pulled in my parking spot it died. Started right up but shuddered when I put it in gear. I drove it yesterday for about seven miles no problem, but I beleive if I drove much more it would have done it again. I beleive it is heat related. Has 3/4 tank of gas in it. Any suggetions?

Hi,

sounds like a bad TCC-Solenoid to me...

Best regards,

Yup. I second the TCC solenoid. Been there, done that.
As a temporary measure, you can unplug the solenoid. It's a 4-prong square-looking plug on the front of the tranny, below where the front manifold connects to the Y-pipe. Your gas mileage will suffer, and your tranny will make more heat.

Hey fleabit, Miss all the fun we had at the dutch classic.

Yep, I also would say it is the TCC. I've never fixed one but it can be unplugged to stop the shutter.

Thanks everyone for your help. You all called it right. I unplugged the harness and no problems. One more question though. Can I drop the pan and get to the solenoid to replace it? Thanks Dave
