I am going to be replacing an original 2.8 w/replacement engine. All is stock: air, auto, etc. Replacement engine is updated ready-to-go. Existing 2.8 w/auto in car is driveable.

What is normal "cost" for a production shop?

The place I took mine to the labor cost was $750. That was to install a new 2.8 long-block.

I'm thinking of doing that exact same thing if/when my 2.8 goes in my 88GT. Don't get me wrong, my car runs fabulous and only has (gulp) 102K miles on it. I'hoping for at least 150K+ out of it, but that is the way I'll be going.

When I shop around for a 2.8 long block, where is the best place to start looking?
Should I research engine rebuilders?
I saw quite a few rebuilt long blocks with a reasonable guarantee at Kragen (Checker for you south paws).

Thanks again.

Jasper Long block is around $1300-$1500, $700-$800 should be about the install price. Id think install at a dealer would be quite a bit higher, prob double.
