I was thinking of driving my Fiero for the winter, but I too much like it now, and I have free car I could get (Pontiac Lemans '79, 305ci, 135,000km) As long as it's still rear-wheel-drive, that can be my car for the winter - for snow slidding, of course And that V8 is quite good, runs like a charm. It would be a good thing to put that in the Fiero With some tune ups, it could be a monster.

So, I need some advice to store my Fiero in a yard during winter time.

Thanks folks, and god bless

Mine get put under wraps. Usually a tarp goes over the car cover. Pull the battery out. Some time the juice seems to drain out over the winter.

Store it for the winter???
Heck, that's when we get below 100F and actually get an inch or two of rain.

What was all that white stuff on the ground around that Fiero that had the tarp on it?

LMAO, that's funny Sly. But I have a question regarding this topic as well. When storing it over winter, would it be good to put the car on blocks and bring the wheels and tires in? I haven't had my car over winter yet. And I have polished aluminum wheels. Would they be okay outside? Will the tires be okay sitting there over -40C weather?

Thanks guys

I will pray formula2

sloth85GT:
For one thing I have heard, it is not recommended to put it on blocks, because the car is meant to be on wheels. Over the winter, thinking of the weather getting pretty cold, and just cold (if we can say that in Canada it could affect something on the suspension (not just the shock, but all of it) If someone has more detail of the effect of the coldness, bring it in. I just know it is not recommended

I don't see anything wrong for the tire to sit outside at -40°. As the pressure inside will lower as it gets colder, I will put a normal 35 psi (which will go down to approx. 20-25 at -30) You get -40 too in Winnipeg, at least twice a year? For your aluminium wheels, as I see it, what's not good about them in winter is the calcium they put on the roads. So sitting in the yard would not damage them.

What are you going to ride this winter?

Well I'm gonna keep the Fiero on the road as long as possible, but the second there's a decent amount of snow, it's going in the back yard, then I'll be borrowing my moms neon. See I don't have a garage so it has to stay outside. I don't want to leave it too long. Thanks for the answers to my questions.

Tank full of gas? Really? I always hear to drain the tank because it can gunk up after sitting for months.

I fill up the tank and mix in STABIL, this keeps the gas from going bad. I also change the oil and disconnect the battery. Then I throw a good quality car cover on the car and leave it alone for spring.

For those of you who don't have inside storage, why don't you rent a storage unit? I've got a 10'x20' unit and pay $66/month. Most of the time you rent on a month by month basis.

$66 a month is a lot for a 19 year old that gets paid $8.50 an hour. I'll have to look around Winnipeg, maybe I can get lucky with something.

sloth85GT, 66$/month, that was US currency I got a space here at my place for 45$/month CANADIAN But it's a year round contract, so I don't want to rent another space for that amount, I already have one... which I will use to store the LEMANS'79-305ci

Some other options for storing a car indoors are renting a part of a barn. Finding a person w/ a 2 car garage, rent half of it, build a carport or move into a house/apt w/ a garage/carport option.
