I can't seem to find out how large the fuel tank is on my 4cyl 1987 Baby (Fiero, that is). Anyone know the size or how I could find it?

I am going to say it's 9.5 but I could be wrong. Anyway, go check this page and type in your VIN. http://www.fiero.net/vin.html

1984 thru 1986 is 10.2 gallons
1987 and 1988 is 11.3 gallons
Doesn't matter if it's the base coupe or the GT.

From what I've read it's not possible. The later tanks have odd bulges and won't physically fit into the narrower tunnel of the earlier cars. GM apparently redesigned the floorpan to get the larger tank in.

OK I can never get more than 8 gallons in my 85 and I let it get very low, as in run out.

Not really a question I know the answer, looking at where the fuel pump is placed in the tank it cannot pickup the last two gallons.

yep, youll never get all the fuel out of a tank. To gain a 1/2 gallon wouldnt be worth the effort even if it did fit. A tip to save wear and tear on fuel pump, keep the tank over half full if you can. Turning, stopping and starting will slosh the gas away from pickup and make it run dry for a second or two. So dont drive around with less than a quarter tank, the pump will be running unnecessarily 2 times as much.

1/2 a gallon? If my math is correct the difference between 10.2 and 11.3 is A gallon. And to me that IS worth it.

Could a new pickup tube be attached to the bottom of the fuel pump that would allow all of the fuel to be used? As long as the screen was still used what would be the problem?

I just put 10.8 gallons in my 86SE and it wasn't up to the top of the neck (click, click, click). I had to have been on vapors.
