if you had already decided to go with a 4:10 tranny, what engine or engines would you match up with it if fun and/or performance (within financial/practicle reason. i don't mean a twin turbo northstar or the like) were the main goals? i'm guessing a high revver.

3.4 Twin Dual Cam. With mods, it'll rev like crazy and makes great power, too.

Does the 4:10 have the .73 or the .81 for 4th? I've heard both, but i know one of those ratios are right and the other is from the economy 4 spd.

The engine choice depends on how you plan to use the car. If it's just a weekend cruiser, go for a high revving small block. If you want to drive it alot more, go with a high revving 6.

Yep, get a screamer. I spun a rod bearing in the first 350 I put in my V8. Had the 4.10 in it, and didnt have the tach mod then. Was runnin with the speedo needle straight down ( 85mph speedo), then knock knock knock...woops!

Even with a motor that will turn 7k, dont expect much more speed than 135 mph or so

What about putting a 4:10 final drive in a 5 speed tranny? This can be done, can't it?

I honestly don't want to take my Indy anywhere out of town because of the slow speeds with the 4:10...

Other than drag racing, the 4:10 is a boat anchor. I gave one away a couple months ago and have another one I'm probably going to give away. I'm thinking about buying a fishing boat so I may keep it. Even with a 3.4TDC I think the 4:10 is geared too short. It's like a jap bike tranny (rato wise).
