Rockcrawl...i thought it was yours...we spoke a while back. do you know who has done a engine swap with a th425 or TH325 mounting the engine so it faces towards the back? I know it exists somewhere but i have to find out how it was done. I don't think you can just turn the final dive 180 degrees...it ain't that easy....any help from you or anyone else would be greatly appreciated........thanks.

I've never seen it done, only heard of it. When I was doing mine several years ago I had a few questions I needed answered. I got the name and # of the guy that was doing the swaps for D&R Replicars and gave him a call. I told him what I was doing and the first thing he asked me is which way I was doing it. He said it is better to do them backwards. He said all he does is rotate the final drive upside down. I didn't get any other details besides that, at least none that I remember. I would have reversed mine, but I was too far into the project to make changes. The contact info I have for the guy is no good anymore. Why don't you think the final drive can be rotated? I just remembered that Held makes a cradle for the 425, here's a quote from their site "This cradle is designed to fit the GM 425 longitudinal transaxle mated to the SB Chevrolet. In this installation the transaxle chain drive is ahead of the engine against the firewall and the engine accessories face the rear for easy access. Weight distribution is important and in this configuration all the weight is ahead of the rear axle. The TH425 is a bullet proof transaxle capable of dealing with plenty of torque. Parts to perform this conversion are available on request." They should be able to answer questions too.

Are these TH425 and Th325-4l transmissions rare in any way? How much can one expect to pay for one. My twin turbo LS1 project has found new life (outside an fbody )

No, the Caddy has a front distributor. That engine is mounted with the front forward.

More info please. How the heck does a trans care wether it's used with EFI or carb?
Forget about using a 3000GT transaxle. The VR4's have transmission reliability problems stock, and the FWD versions can't be any tougher.

I thought that all Corvair transaxles used Saginaw guts, not rock crusher parts.

Turbo88, you are in luck...I bought my TH425 from a guy in Oklahoma, he shipped it to me, it was a pretty reasonable price. Contact Ken at East-West Auto Parts, he can hook u up with a tranny.
