I am trying to get my left front fender off the car to prep it for painting. I was planning on taking off all the panels for painting but I am starting to see it is not very easy.

Anyway, I am having a ***** of a time with this fender. I have all of the screws and rivits out but it is still holding onto the rocker and I cannot figure out the trick to getting it off.

After I get the fender off, is it worth it to take off the rest of the panels for painting? How much work is it to put them back on? I am pretty sure that those plastic rivits aren't reusable so how do I reconnect the pieces?

Is there some sort of online guide w/pictures that I don't know about?

Thanks,
-Charlie

So are we removing the rocker or the fender. The rocker is clipped through the fenders in the front. Remove the wheel well liner and I think you can see it from there.

This is a copied e-mail someone sent me a while back.

Removing a fender is not too difficult but the rivets needed are a
little
pricey to do it right. On a GT the 10mm bolts have to be removed along
the
top of the fender then the 7mm screw in the front. The plastic rivets
should
be cut which run along the bottom of the ground effect molding. Then
the 3
metal rivets under the three caps that run along the top of the ground
effect molding need to be drilled out and removed. Finally the small
ground
effect trim along three bottom of the fender can be separated from the
bottom ground effect trim by lifting the internal tab with a
screwdriver.
Now the bottom of the fender will have two rivets which can be drilled
out
and the fender removed.
It sounds worst than it really is. Once you have a replacement fender
in
hand it is easier to see and understand than my awkward description.
Rivets,
plastic and metal, can be purchased by special request from most NAPA
auto
parts. If you can not locate the rivets I could check prices and supply
them
to you at cost. Also note a plastic rivet gun is necessary to replace
many
of the rivets on a fiero also available at NAPA.

Thanks! That helped a bunch. JetroGT, those instructions were perfect, do you have any for the rest of the car? Does anyone have any sort of step by step for taking off the rest of the panels? I have the decklid, and hood off already.
