took my fiero on its first highway road trip last friday - 80 miles each way - at 70 to 75 mph
on the way back it was getting chilly so we put the sunroof in and had the windows closed. on the highway the sunroof was noisy, kinda whisteling noise.
I messed around with pushing on it,and reaching outside and pushing down on it, nothing helped.
till just out of curiousty I popped it open - instant quiet - really surprized me that it is quieter open than it is closed!
someone mentioned once you can get exhaust fumes with it open on the highway with the windows closed - so I was watching for that, but didnt really notice any exhaust smell.
Now that I think of it, that was the first time I have driven the car anywhere for more than a mile or two with the sunroof in.
I suppose I could replace the gasket someday - nah!

Well if your no in the mood to change your roof panel with me (mine is the non-sunroof having panel.) You could try some rubber conditioner like armor all and see if that helps to make a better seal. I don't have a sun roof, so I don't know if their is any adjustments that can be made. Check the service manual. Or hopefully some one will have more info on this subject than me.

Ken, replace the hard rubber gaskets in the screw holes in your sunroof glass, should have 4 holes total, it requires 8 rubber gaskets(get them at pontiac), this solved my problem, it makes the sun-roof close tighter, they get old and fall apart..jim
2 steps to better your sealing: 1) Douse the rubber seal in wd-40. Let it sit. Repeat about 5 times. Then wipe it clean, and wash with a grease remover.
2) Buy a tube of KY-Jelly (no jokes, please I'm trying to type with a straight face) and liberally coat the seal, but make sure that there isn't any excess that will smear. I've found that this tends to help. Swells the rubber, and makes a better seal.

so you coat the rubber with KY Jelly to make it swell, and get a better seal... nah, too easy. hehe
As opposed to buying brand new bolt seals, I just packed the holes with RTV silicone and then assembled it as normal, using the old washers. I haven't had any leaks yet.
I do smell my engine though, not really the exhuast but just the engine itself. It may also be from me removing the stamped louver sheet under the engine vents, so more air flows out.

I Found that when I had my sunroof up and hit some rough road it made an annoying rattle as well... Check to see if the torx screws that hold the 2 tabs on the front side are tight. Mine were loose and were causing the problem. Plus I found that a leak I had that caused water to drip into the center glove box was caused by the torx screws that hold the closing lever were loose. Tightening em all fixed everything. Hope it helps.

Well, they are pretty tight... If I wiggle the sunroof, it sounds like it is the latch...not sure what I'll do about it though?! Probably worn. Anyone got a spare one?

If it is the latch that is bolted to the roof of the car that is rattling, take out the 1 phillips screw to remove the cover plate, and then tighten the bolts that hold the actual latch assy. to the roof. You might want to use some loctite just to keep them tight.
