Hey guys. I'm looking for little stuff to do to my GT, and I noticed that the tail lamps are starting to delaminate around the "PONTIAC" lettering. It's the black stuff that's starting to peel. It looks as if there's an air bubble in there. I heard that it's a laminated plastic coating, and I'm wondering if there's a way to fix this. I'm wondering if I can take off the coating, and paint the rear of the lens. Any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot!

I have been thinking about trying that myself but haven't found the time yet - let me know if you try it and how well it works out.....

I,ve considered drilling a small hole through the black plastic laminate and injecting West System Epoxy which can be thined, or possibly a black paint.
I have a broken lens to experiment with but like tgowens haven't been able to coordinate time and materials. There has to be a fairly simple solution.

Well, I took the tail lights apart today, and I figure that the delamination can't be fixed. The black piece is pretty much molded into the tail lamp and cannot be removed. I may still try what Wolfhound said; it's not like it can look any worse! At least I had to take them apart for a reason; to tint the rear covers. Thanks for the help though.

Good time to get the Ferrari-like taillights.

You can still get new lens covers from GM for less than $100 each. Not a cheap alternative but considering that the first set lasted this long, they may be a good investment.

If I had the money, maybe I'd buy those, but my delamination isn't severe enough for me to care that much. Maybe if it was a show car... I'm still going to try what Wolfhound said though. I need to order some tinting spray, but I'll work on that too. I think it might work. You would have to drill through the plastic sheet though. It's around 1/8" - 1/4" thick, so it wouldn't be that hard. It does not some out though. I do like the Ferrari tail lamps, but not really on cars w/ no other body modifications. Thanks though.
