Since there are two, and neither are showing signs of leaking, how do you know which one to replace? When clutch pedal is depressed, it disengages clutch but if you leave clutch pedal depressed for more than 10 seconds, clutch will slowly engage. A slow leak so far. Any advice?

This problem indicates that an 'O' ring is leaking in one of the two. For the master from the inside of the car at the end of the connecting rod from the clutch pedal is a rubber boot. If the master is leaking the area will be wet on the inside of the boot and may also get the carpet wet as well, especially if this had been happening for a while.
For the slave you can do the same check, at the transmission side there is another boot which will be wet on the inside and it may have droplets on the outside.
If both are dry, there may be a pin hole leak in the line between the two due to rust. Your fluid may need to changed as well.

I have had the same problem as 88FTTG, but always thought it was due to these darn self-adjusting clutches. I just keep my foot off the clutch pedal as much as possible.

Now I know what to look for. But I'm not aware of needing fluid.

Considering how cheap the rebuild kits are do em both. To save money, rebuild the slave first. Be sure to put the rubber seal on EXACTLY the same as the old. If it is reversed it will not work.

rebuild 'em both!

If the o-rings are bad it is 90% of the time caused by contaminated brake fluid; which screws up the whole system. If you fix just one you will probably see problems with the other very soon.

Check your brake calipers while you are at it too. The caliper re-build kit is dirt cheap and the process is not too time consuming.

I had the same thing happen with my 88 coupe. I changed them both and now I am pissed that I didn't do it 3000 miles ago. It drives better than new.

I say do em' both.

Rob

** And I'll add that it was the easiest thing I have every changed on my car. **

Just an FYI.....rebuilds don't always "take", so even after rebuilding the slave and/or master they may still be bad.

Replace them both with original GM parts and don't worry about them for a long time.

I just pulled my slave away from the transmission leaving it connected to the line. I then had the rod/boot pulled off the slave. After that I had a friend depress the clutch and I was able to see bubbles form around the end of the slave.

Anybody know where I can get a rebuild kit from? Thanks

Jim
