What is the normal operating temp of a 2.5 4cyl. motor. My guage reads 220 and I was told by someone that the fan won't come on until 235. Is this correct?

I don't think so...
I believe that the fan is supposed to go on in the 190's...
And I can't find my book to look for you.

Depends what setup it is...

84-86 1 speed fan on at 235F on
84-86 2 speed fan low 221F high 246F
87-88 1 speed fan on at 225F

Fan also comes on if AC is on.

220 is ok to run at. Check over the cooling system just to make sure.

Don't forget to test coolant to see how much antifreeze is in it. That will make a diference...

hyhy4u, your temp sending unit has crapped out, thats why the guage does that. Part runs around 20 bucks at Autozone and is super easy to replace...Ive done it on several Fieros. Its located on the rear (trunk side) of the engine, on the rear left corner by the valve cover...youll see it. M7F

The other day I turned on my lights and the temp gage would move with the dimmer switch.
I took the gage cluster apart and found the bottom had grounded and would work fine till I turned on my lights. Things that make you go nuts.
