I need some help.
I have a 1984 SE with the 4 cylinder.
Whenever I got the car I noticed that the alt. belt wasn't straight and it wore a grove in the side of the belt I was also misssing the AC belt.
Whenever I went to purchase the new belts they said that I needed 3 belts One for that ran the alt. water pump and crank..one for the AC, water pump and crank..and one for the AC. My motor is only set up for two of the three belts..the Alt, water pump, & crank and the AC, water pump and crank. after installing the belts the alt. belt is still off set is this normal?...and where is the pullys for the third belt?
Thanks in advance.

Parts stores list three belts for the 84, but only two are used at one time. One for the alternator, crank, and water pump. The other one was EITHER the crank, water pump, a/c, OR crank and a/c only. If both pulley grooves on the crank pulley are the same diameter, then you need the belt for a/c, water pump, and crank. If the outer pulley groove on the crank is smaller than the inner groove, then you need the belt for a/c and crank only. I think the early 84's used the a/c-crank only and the later ones added the water pump pulley.
The belts should not be offset. If they are you need to check and see if you have a bent or loose mounting bracket on the alternator or maybe the pulley on the waterpump has shifted on the shaft.

Hey Flash!
Remove your alternator and look at the bottom mount...
I suspect you will find the hole worn out...
That is caused by not getting the bolt tight...
crash...
