so just after driving it a bit, i pulled into a parking spot, and began to put it into reverse to straighten the car out.
clutch to the floor, the gearshift grinds when i start to move it into R.

i dont want to force it

im going to let it cool off and im gonna try it again

sounds like a clutch release (or lack of release) concern. Check back a few pages/days on clutch concerns.

No, I don't think reverse gear cares about the synchros, sorry.

Next time you try it, hold both clutch and brake pedals down (car stationary), and shift into 2nd (or any gear besides reverse), then into reverse.

Shifting into 2nd stops the trans. from spinning, so that you can get into reverse without clashing. This has nothing to do with what you're wearing vs. interior color, BTW

If that doesn't work, clutch probably is not releasing fully.

$80 for a backup light switch?!?! What tranny/year/engine do you have? My 5spd Isuzu backup light switch ran me $15.
