hi all,
I'm looking into an Aurora V8 swap (w. a 5speed trans) and I wanted to be certain that the engine (I assume it's the same weight as the NorthStar) IS lighter than the stock V6.

That's what I remember reading from the ACE WEB site for the NorthStar, but I remember reading something about someone saying is NorthStar swap car gained 200 lbs ???

so what is it, heavier or lighter ?

Anybody know about the GM aluminium V6 blocks (ie bow tie) ?
Can they be found in a production car ? (well, one can dream can't he !?)

Also, what is the normal offset for the 15" wheels on a 86 GT ?

Thank you
Keep smiling
Philippe

The added weight of the Northstar primarily comes from using the automatic tranny, It's a beast.

I just did a little research on the aluminum chevy v8s. In 1982-86 they made aluninum 350 chevs. My ace machanic says they were NOT DESIRABLE. after market blocks (all of them) are great if your racing, but for the daily driver they dont seal consitanly. The LS1 is the exception. If ya can get one you can afford do it. I was after the chev block 'cause it weighs 135lbs less than the Iron one.

I haven't weighed the fully equipped engine yet, but the longblock weighs 345 lbs.
It's amazingly light for its size.
