What are some possible miles per gallon numbers that you can get with a rebuilt '84 Duke with mild upgraded hardware, stock V6 exhaust, and auto transmission?

I get 19 to 21mpg stop and go to work, depending onhow much I hot rod it. The trip to Paxton and home gave me 26+mpg with a long strech of driving at 70mph,75-80mph and I did get to 95mph for about 15 minutes. Please do not tell my insureance company or my wife!

Doug delivered my Indy down here to me a couple of weeks ago from WV and was reporting getting mid 30s on the interstate. I just drove my 88 T-top to VA and back and averaged about 37, with the T-tops out! This, of course, is interstate with lots of drafting behind semis. But I love passing those gas stations!

Great googly moogly 37! semis are good drafterd but the turbulence get to be a bit much after a while

The best I ever got with my 87 coupe with an automatic was 22 MPG when it was working right and that was mostly 70-75 mph highway after I just gave it a major tun-up including a new 02 sensor. My worst was 19.5 MPG with the coupe. The best I ever got with my 5-speed formula driving the same speed was 30 mpg and it needed a tun-up. The worst I got with my formula was 24 mpg. My brother had a 91 Grand am with the 2.5-liter motor and he never got better than 23 highway MPG. I could pass him in a race in my old v6 Bonneville and get 23 MPG in mixed driving. For some reason I could never get good mileage with the 2.5-liter engine and I always keep my cars in tune. The 30-mpg I got with my formula was driving it home from Connecticut the day I bought it, must be the 5-speed. I then gave it a tun-up.
A freer flowing exhaust system will improve your gas mileage.
