I want to replace the original seats in an 86 Fiero. Can anyone give suggestions on some seat style that easily mount to the original bolts or something close. I would like to find something a little sportier than the originals.

I just ordered these seat covers for my red '88 coupe. I'll do a little trick work and kind of sew them onto my seats to make them look like they are not seat covers. http://www.autoenhance.com/sportseat.html

it would have to come out of a smaller car. Most have too thick a pad for you to sit low enough. 300Z, or Vette might look great.go to a yard and measure from the floor board to the top of the seat cushion to make sure it fits. Prob have to modify the mounting points a little.
I have heard that any small and some mid size GM cars that are the same width will work ie. cavalier,beretta,corsica,g/am,t/am,sunbird and so on-even pre 94 small jimmy/blazer if you wanted leather bolt in. you would use you seat adjuster from fiero and bolt on. Again this is "so I have been told"

The Fiero Book said even the factory wanted to use off the shelf Camaro seats, but they sat to high from the floor, jammed your head into headliner, Firebird would be the same. Its going to take a thinner seat. The Prelude prob would be a good try.
just made some quick measurments. my seat, at the center part of bottom cushion the top is 4 inches above the floor. So is Lisas stock seat.I have a couple of cars here- I measured a new Cadillac Caterra, the small german made one, the same spot is almost 10 inches off the floor, and a Camaro here is almost 8 inches. Those 2 cars would be like chopping your top 4-6 inches.

I actually have a pair of these on my Fiero. They fit pretty well, and if you've got the headrest speakers, they don't have much padding added at the top to muffle the sound.
Might want to skip them if your backside isn't narrow though. I'm a pretty thin guy and I'm wedged in pretty snug between the side cushions on them.
On the plus side, almost everyone mistakes them for new seats, not seatcovers.

Yes older F body seats will work and with minimum modification. The rails are the same width. Do a search I know I've seen TA seats installed complete with power lumbar and full power adjust. As for others, alot of modification will have to be done. I have looked at full leather MR2 seats they have a 17" rail seperation instead of the 12.5 found on Fieros and F bodies. You might also have luck with the Geos I think they have a similar width as well.

I have a set of grey seats from an late 80s Cutlass Calais International(Quad 4 car) that I installed in my 66k 88GT. They're bolt-ons to the Fiero seat rails and have an adjustable headrest and storage pouches in the back. The lumbar cushions are slightly wider than the stock Fiero seats so they squeak a little against the armrest and the center console, but not too badly. I have a pic at: http://home.netcom.com/~jkim/calais.jpg
I'm not sure if I'd call them sportier than the stock seats, but they were cheap.

I pulled a set of seats from a 97 Firebird and 96 camaro. All I did was swap the rails off the bottom of the seats and I was good to go. The firebird seats had a manual seat tilt so in a certain setting the seat is a bit higher but it can be adjusted. 93 and up F-body seats will work.
As a side note, I suspect that Saturn seats will work (I kinda like the leather ones) but havent been inclined to go snatch a set to try them out. Maybe someone who owns a saturn could shed some lite on that idea???

Question: Why do you wanna swap seats in the first place? I love the look of fiero seats and find they're comfortable, can have speakers in them, and suck you in. What the problem?

Mine had cigarette burns on the bottom of the seats which marred an otherwise flawless interior. The cost of the "new" seats were less than the cost of getting the bottoms reupholstered.
