i read a few posts on the forum about higher octane gas possibly stopping that annoying ping* noise that i also have... is an 85 4 cyl coupe going to notice a difference from high octane as opposed to the normal 87 octane?
thanks

Knock and ping are caused by predetonation of fuel in the combustion chamber. The chamber is so hot, that the fuel explodes before the spark plug fires. This can cause a lot of damage to your engine.

Running a higher octane fuel will not cause your engine combustion chambers to run so hot. If it is cooler, then you wont have predetonation.

So yes, you will notice a difference if you run higher octane fuel; your engine wont ping.

The predetonation can be caused by timing set incorrectly or the carbon build up in the cylinder.
