Nothing substantial. Maybe if you put in a higher flowing air filter. Get a custom intake like Chris West sells, and get a bored out Throttle body, then you might notice some difference. But the scoops alone, if anything at all, maybe one or two horsepower

Nope, not if you have the stock air intake. Once air enters the intake tube it runs right into the water filter and all kinds of other mazelike obstacles. It's the equivalent of ramming air onto a brick wall.

There is a thread about the holley scoop that has the same question. If I remember correctly, there was no difference in hp or torque with side scoops or the water trap removed. This was done on a dyno but you must remember on a dyno there is no air passing outside the car. Also most scoop designs for the Fiero are not wide enough to catch the main stream of air passing the side of the car. So the "ram" effect is minimal at best. The only advantage the scoop has over the original "grate" is some air is caught by the scoop and this MAY aid in gas mileage while driving down the highway.

In searching for more power, my race crew tested the Fiero V6 engine on the dyno without the stock air cleaner and inlet system, and we were surprised to find that this produced no change in power. Apparently, the Pontiac engineers did a good job on these parts because they work well, even though they look restrictive
Well Duh! What do you think is better, sucking cold air from outside the engine compartment through the stock intake system or hot air from the engine compartment right into a bare throttle body? Not to mention this artice was written in 1991 before the "tube with a K&N" style air intake became widestream. It may have not even been invented at that time
To those who seem to love their stock intake so much then keep it. I personally have noticed an improvement in acceleration, sound, and looks with this mod.
I installed a K@N and the Holley air scoop and noticed a slight difference. Every little bit helps! I later installed one of Darrell Morses bored out T-bodies and upper plenum and noticed a large difference!

Just take your air filter out and try it without the filter. I think you will see no difference. I think orge said onetime that the reason some of the guy's noticed a difference was they were installing a new clean filter Which replaced a dirty one. My thoughts is the stock system is good and the air scoop's makes it look nice.

Have you ever taken out your stock air intake assembly? The air filter is not the obstruction. The rain filter/noise resonator box is.

fyerstarter The rain filter/noise resonator box is not in mine. It looks like there was nothing in there, but I did not buy it new. If it was in there they did a good job because there is no grinding marks or nothing to show that something had been removed.
