This probably won't work whatsoever but I thought I'd throw it out there. I'm looking into getting a sunroof. Now I know I need to swap roofs...but...why don't I just leave the roof off once I take it off...maybe make nice moldings for the windsheild? Is it at all possible? Thx!

The part you take off to swap to a sunroof is just the plastic "skin". The steel unibody is still underneath (complete with a hole in it for the factory sunroof).

Your idea would require a cutting torch.

I would cut it off! But before you do make a cage so that the body doesn't twist. You'd really have to stiffen the car up if you remove the top. Maybe X brace underneath and a roll cage inside. That would be cool!!!!!

Grab a sawzaw and go to town. I've seen it done to a Chevette. Some crazy kids outside of town that always have about 5 or 6 beaters parked in their front yard decided to have fun one day. I seen the kid on the road going the other way and he waved above the windshield, It was quite a site. A week or so later I drove by their house and the Chevette was bent in half. Hehe, I think he probably tried packing all his buddies in it and the doors were open.

One Technical note, on steel bodied cars, Like a chevette, remember to weld the doors shut when you cut the roof off. A friend of mine neglected to do this with his chevette and bent the car in half also despite the addition of subframe connectors. Welding the doors will give you the extra rigidity required when removing the top.

Plus you get that Dukes of Hazzard thing going too.

Woudl that seriously work though? Just welding the doors thats it?
That would give the body enough strength?
