The purpleish color wire is the gage, the black is the ground, the brown (sometimes gray) wire is the power to the Fuel Pump.

My advice? Don't use an external pump.

Hi arch. Just out of curiosity, why wouldnt an extenal fuel pump work. Ive thought off n on about doing it that way, so I could use a higher powered pump. Wouldnt have to modify anything except minor wiring and wouldnt have to remove the tank.

Removing your gas tank just looks like a pain. I did it curb-side and full without a problem. Just make sure you use a brass punch to remove the sending unit's lock ring. A spark would be disastrous.
If you have two jacks and four jackstands, this is easy.

I don't want to say External Fuel Pumps don't work, 'cus then someone is going to claim to be the exception.

I've only seen inline pumps on 4 or 5 Fieros & none of them would get the last of the gas out of the tank.

Electric Fuel Pumps are designed to PUSH fuel not to PULL fuel. You can use an inline pump on a Fiero, if you put in a fitting at the bottom of the tank so that the fuel pump is gravity fed.

IMHO, let's say we have an inline pump & that the original pump has been replaced with an inlet tube. (you would have to remove the tank to install this tube) When the tank is full the weight of the fuel can force fuel thru the line to the pump, but when the fuel load gets lighter the pump would be forced to pull the fuel. Fieros I've seen with external pumps never seemed to be able to reliably get the last couple of gallons out of the tank. Also, I would think that if you were to runout of gas & just add a couple of gallons to get you going..... I have my doubts as to wether the inline pump can suck enough vacuum to self-prime it'self.

ok, gotta go to work, hope this helps.

Nope..... NO external pumps.

If you are going to use a Carburated engine then use the 4 Cylinder Fiero F/P.

If you are going to use a TPI fuel injected engine then use the 6 Cylinder Fiero F/P.

If you are going to use a High output TPI fuel injected engine then use the Grand National F/P (Delco PN EP242).
