Hey guys .. i recently blew a rod on my 84 2.5 4 Cyl fiero ... i was calling around for different engine prices and was told that a 88 pontiac 6000 2.5 L engine is the exact same and would fit?? is this true? i also heard Omega's and Phoenix's would also fit? could someone tell me what others cars i could get engine's from to replace my 84 2.5 L ..

88 2.5l are nearly all DIS ignition. it will fit only physically. You'll have to change all sorts of things for it to run.

Just curious did you find one?
I am trying to find one that will slip in without any modifications.
Looks like I will have to find one from 1986 or older to keep from swapping out the ECM.

ya i was able to find a stock engine off Bubbajoexx which he sold me with a blown head gasket or cracked heads.. nice deal... so i still dont have a working car

I have an 84 4-cylinder that I shreded the timing gear on. I didn't bother to check it and though my engine was just shot. I got an engine out of a pontiac 6000, not sure what year though, all I did was use the block and heads off of it. I changed everything from my engine onto that. Still works great.

i beleive my replacement duck came out of a pontiac 6000 as well.
They didnt say what year it was. pre-88 cause its the same as my 84 engine.

supposedly went in pretty nicely, there were a couple things that were a pain but cant remember what mechanic said.
