OK I find me an 85 black beauty, its not perfect but seemed to run that is till I pay for it.
Hand over the cash and drive home to pickup my wife and it died in the driveway.
Now the first thing I think is its out of fuel, I run down and get some gas and still now go, it will start and is getting spark but as soon as I give it some gas it dies. Thinking I have a plugged filter I run and get one.
Still no go and I am not a happy camper. If you have any ideas please help.

2.5L 4-Cylinder, around 60,000 miles.
The spedometer is not working so miles are not accurate. The car is clean and didnt look beat.

Vacume lines look solid. Just wont run.

Exhaust looks ok, I think it is the injector. If I trickle fuel beside it the car will run as soon as I stop it will stall.
I am getting good fuel pressure but if the injector is not working properly than it may be the blame.

Change that injector, its a simple job, only takes about 5 minutes. I'd be sure to change out the fuel filter too.

Happy Fieroing

Well the injector didn’t make any difference, I called the lot that I bought it from and they are going tow it to a garage.

It crossed my mind more than once. First thing I did was make sure that it had fuel, than I replaced the filter, I am getting good pressure. I don’t know maybe the fuel pump is the problem. Hope that the mechanic can find something..

How much fuel pressure? You should have 9-13 lbs. of pressure. Watching the fuel pump into a bucket is not an indication of fuel pressure.

It is probably the pump, we will see. Dont have much room here at the house so will have to wait till the garage looks at it.

has it been sitting a long time, or driven recently before you bought it?

is the injector firing at all?have someone crank it over while you verify this with the air cleaner off..if it is not look for some screwed up wiring or maybe a fuseable link somewhere..or perhaps the ecm

I am getting some pressure but it is not what it should be, I can hear the pump and the relay is clicking but it is not building up any pressure at the filter. If it is not the pump than I dont know what else to check.
I replaced the filter and injector what else could it be? I am getting spark and if I trickle fuel by the injector it will run.

On top of having to have a couple of sensors changed. I had that, "it will idle as long as you don't try to go anywhere" syndrome. It turned out to be my fuel pump. My car would have to warm up first before that idle only rule would happen. The fuel tank needs to be dropped to get it out so don't have a full tank.

Found a burnt wire going to the pump I don’t know if it is electrical fire or heat from the exhaust. Thanks for all your tips

Got it put in the new pump today, and the hose from the pump to the tube had a slit in it so I had pressure to a open container but as soon as I close the system the slit would open up and just cycle fuel in the tank. Now it runs but idles poorly so I looked under the car and the cat was glowing. Off to the parts store.
