Can the Catalytic Converter be replaced on a V6 without bringing it to a place like Meineke. It looks like the one that's on there now is welded into place. Is there a kit that allows installation without welding? In addition, what's a good Cat for the V6?

The Fiero Store sells cat kits for all Fieros for around $120. What you get is a long J-shaped piece of exhaust pipe and a new cat which is much smaller and lighter than the original.

To install it, you cut the old cat off at the downstream end and unbolt it from the head pipe at the upstream end. The Fiero Store's J-pipe is so long your could install it and run without a cat - or you can cut a section out that's shorter than the cat and bolt the cat on, which I did.

It would have worked great if the head pipe-to-exhaust pipe bolts hadn't broken off, so I had to drill them out, retap the holes, and install new bolts. Then I cut too much off the J-pipe and had to hillbilly-rig a patch from my leftover pipe. The patch leaked, so I ended up going to Tuffy and paying to have the whole thing welded anyway.

Exhaust work sucks.

Rodney Dickman also sells a clamp-on cat. Hacksaw your old one off; clamp this one on. OK, it's not quite that easy, but it's not too tough as exhaust work goes.

Exhaust work does suck!
