Has anyone put a turbo on the Iron Duke? I think of the Fiero as a poor man's Lotus Esprit turbo. Lotus got 250HP out of a 4 cylinder of similar size back in the eighties. On the other hand, the V8 conversions seem like the old Panteras. Besides, too much power can take the fun out of driving.
Getting back on the subject, has anyone installed a turbo on the 2.5L 4 cylinder engine?
I am considering using a turbonetics T3 turbo with a holley TBI and edelbrock performer manifold. Of course, I will be upgrading the camshaft to more aggressive roller type. The engine is a fresh rebuild, so it should be up to 6 to 8 psi of boost. I think some external oil reservior (like a 911 has) might be a good idea. Any opinions on this one? Would such an engine make 150 hp?

can't remember exact mag (r&t, mot. trend, car and driver. one of those 'cause i saw it at my local library and that is what the have on back issue) look through the '84 issues for an article on the pfaff (i think i spelled it right) turbo. probaly long out of bussiness, for fieros anyway, but might be good for info. made about 140hp.
seems like a lot of trouble for 150 horses. if you want to stay with a 4 cyl. it seems like a switch to a quad 4 or twin cam 4 would be better. even if you just like the idea of a turbo 4 they seem like better engines to base it on.

A LOOOOOOONG time ago a company name Pfaff made a turbo four using the iron duke. Even with forced induction it made no where near the power of the V6.
I know I have some info on it somewhere but I can't find it right now...

I had a Turbo 2.5L and it was very tempermental you NEED a better head gasket AND head studs I blew 3 Head gaskets all in under 1000 miles I still have the Exhaust Manifold if you want it nothing special about it just has the original flange cut off so a "Cheap" adapter can be bolted on (very crappy) for the money you are about to spend on the duke Look in the mall and just get that Quad 4 asy. it's down to like $3000 on the cradle with a trans and brakes it will be much faster and last longer than the duke.

Swap to a sunbird Turbo motor , rather than built a turbo duke. You can get the turbo sunbird motors CHEAP , I have been offered a few for free. there over 150hp to begin with , and since everything is designed to go together , there is no guess work. Dial up the boost a bit , throw on a Junkyard intercooler ,volvo , saab , geo metro turbo , all have nice little intercoolers which cost around $40 to $80 (up here in canada) check out ebay as well. These are nice little motors , my friend had a turbo sunbird that we couldn't kill.

Okay, so I just bought the 4cyl/auto Fiero today. It's the first time I drove one. I don't have any complaints about the 4cylinder engine (2.5L) it seems to be very torquey and it was just rebuilt anyway. I will look for a Sunbird Turbo motor in the meantime. If they are as cheap as you say, then I can't see why I would not want to get one. On the other hand, I think the interior and body of the car will be the first things on my list. But that will be a new post . . . Thanks for all the info, you guys (see the responses above) rock!
The sunbird Engine won't bolt to the Fiero Trans. you will also need the ECM & wireing harness I don't know If the Fiero Axles or shifter will work thogh.

I think Chevy (actually Suzuki) produced a small car in the late '80's called the Chevy Sprint Turbo. I also think it was a 3 cylinder engine with a VERY small turbocharger and intercooler bolted to it.
I actually witnessed a Sprint turbo beat a 302 Mustang up at Buick City Raceway in Flint. It is a 1/2 mile oval. The Mustang had him off of the first straight, but couldn't cut to the inside. The Sprint ended up winning by a couple of lengths.
