Howdy,

I recently bought a MSD Blaster #8226 for an 84 2m4, however the stock connectors don't fit. Are there adaptors you can buy?

Also, if I rewire the stock harness into the new coil, does it matter if the 2 wires leading to the electronic spark timing box are disconnected?

Thanks

I have a similar problem. If your coil(stock)is like mine, you might have purchased the wrong aftermarket coil.
The fact is, noone makes a direct plug-in aftermarket performance coil for the '84 2.5l. Believe me I looooked!
Problem is, the later year ext. coils were using the gm dual connector. The 84 on the otherhand uses a 4 bladed male connection. It is also slightly larger in size.
After many calls and repeated trips to 3 different speed shops, I went with the MSD Blaster SS coil(pn 8200). It is universal and has two terminals....+ and -. It should be easy to wire up but.....
Nobody on this list(so far) can give me a straight answer on which wires from the harness go to the + and - terminals.
The heavy primary lead is a no brainer. +
The tach filter lead...???
The radio cap. lead from the distributor..???
And of course the scary one, the wire to the electronic module in the distributor..?????

Mayb somebody can help now. They didn't seem to know when I posted a similar thread a while back.

OOps, the part # for the MSD coil should read
8207.
This is probably a nice coil but I can't get the wiring correct yet. I like the fact that it is compatible with MSD ignition boxes if you ever decide to upgrade. It was reasonably priced too!

The best place to look for that info is the 84 shop book or ALLdata. ALLdata makes a cd for popular mechanics that may have it in there. (The CD is $20 at K mart.)They also have a subscription online service now. If I had the drawings for 84 I could tell you but I don't have them. I only have what's in Haynes for the distributor 4s so I'm not even going to guess.

You can get the newer connector from a salvage yard. Maybe the MotorMite master catalog at the parts store.

Save your twenty bucks for the all-data Cd.
I had an electrical genius email the answer to me. Here goes:
The primary wire (heavy pink) goes to the ..+
The other wire coming from the loom (white or black? from the tach filter) goes to ..-
Two wires coming from the distributor connect as follows:
the pink or black? wire from the radio cap. goes to the..+
The last wire( should be brown) from the module goes to the ..-
Be sure to get MSD BlasterSS pn#8207 and post if you need any more details. Oh yeah, 8 mm wires really take advantage of the higher coil output.

Thanks guys,
I'll need to drop by the boneyard to at least get some newer connectors to fit the #8226, but at least knowing what is +ve and -ve should help.

Thanks your electrical friend for me horseman.

Cheers

Yeah, Frans has really got the mind for the electrical tech. Check out his fiero website for some other cool ideas and projects. http://www.euronet.nl/users/fo_elmo/fiero.htm
