there are lots of wheel tire discussions in both the tech and general arear. you might want to check in the search area for this... you can cram 18s up in there but then you have higher rotating mass you can have 14"s but do you like their look? lots of questions and lots of right answers. let us knwo and i'm sure the forum members will be happy to flood your brain with answers..

My understanding is a taller tire will give you more top speed. But you will loose low end power. I have an 86 chevy s10 that has 31" tires no low end power compared to stock tires. I usually have to downshift to 4th to go up hills on the freeway. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Do the 27x10 Goodyear Eagle slicks on my pro street count? In street tires, they are 295/50R15. Tread width is 10 inches - overall width is 12 inches. Height (obviously) is 27 inches.

onfire your right.. the taller the tire the higher the top speed but you'll need the HP to push to the higher speed not just a taller tire.. cause with a taller tire you'll have more rotating mass to deal, with and a higher coeffecient of drag on the road with a wider tire. a 295-50 is a killer drag tire if you have the hp to turn it. i had 255s on a Nitrous car and it was hard pressed to chirp in to the next the clutch would slip first.. I'd rather loose hp at the ground than have to replace another friggin clutch! lower wider tires can lower you center of gravity thus making the car handle better but it'll also put more stress on the bearing surfaces. the shorter tires will also be great for slalom courses. you need to find the best of both worlds. Like Boom said 295-50! but what he doesn't say is his tires balloon half way down the track and turn into +31" tires for better top end. too bad real street tire don't do that.. the BFG Drag radials and Nitto NT555Rs try to emulate this and do a pretty good job but at a price. my happy medium is a 235-40-40 plenty of meat for the straigh track andplenty of meat for a tight corner with just enough tire defelction and slip angle to have a decent ride and nice looks too boot. you just have to find the happy medium for your application
