My question is whether one of the newer GM AM-FM radios will work in the Fiero.

My AM-FM cassette has the typical broken belt syndrome and since I don't have any cassettes, I would like to replace it with a non-cassette radio. EBAY is loaded with GM radios from the '90's that look very similar to what's in the Fiero, and my question is whether or not they're plug and play. The newer radios have more presets...they look physically okay, but I wonder about the wiring...

Or would anyone like to swap a cassette radio for a non-cassette one ?

But do they physically fit ? Are the dimensions the same ?I'm talking about the early/mid '90's GM AM/FM radio.

Maybe I'll just buy one and try it.

I got an AM/FM/Cassette/CD unit from a 98 model Olds 88. I picked up a wiring connector kit from a local sound shop that made wiring plug'n'play. Unfortunately it is a double din chassis that won't fit the din and a half opening in the Fiero dash without surgery. I'm contemplating trying it in my 85GT. If I get it to work I'll post pictures and instructions.

Later,

Carroll

The majority of GMs (and alot of Chryslers, too) use the DIN and a half size. If you want a good, factory (GM, not Fiero) stereo, try www.aatechnologies.com
They sell CD players for $230. Pretty good deal unless you plan on adding an amp (no RCA outs on the factory models as far as I know).

All most all factory GM radios are the 1.5 DIN size. Any GM dealer has the whole wiring setup kit for most of them.

I'm rather leary of buying used radios unless I know where they came from. This is like the most ripped off thing in the whole car world.

There are a few models of GM radio that won't work in Fiero. At lest not easily. read the descriptions carefully.

I should be safe buying a stock GM AM/FM radio...after all, no one steals these things...a ton of them on EBAY for less than $10.

Look at how my radio looks. It came out of a 96 Grand Am It lights up the same color as the rest of the dash too.
