will an 88 pan fit on an earlier model?

It will fit an 87, but not 85 and 86. I assume you are talking about V6's... if not then no, the 88 4 cylinder pan will not fit any other year. In 88 they put the oil filter in the oilpan. I think there were some 87's that had the same type of pan/filter combo, but don't quote me on that.

LOL... I get it... he quoted me. That one slipped by me when I checked it yesterday.

My 88 coupe came with a 4 cylinder and when I changed the oil, it spilled all over the place... very messy. The Haynes manual shows the oilpan for the 88 in the front of the car if you noticed it.
