I've noticed that my 87 GT seems to want to stall when cold and that as I accelerate, it seems to hit a flat spot. Meaning, as you smoothly press the accelerator pedal, there is a point when the RPMs of the motor flattens out then, as you keep pressing the pedal, the RPMs will jump and the car will take off as normal.

I was thinking maybe a vacuum leak or maybe a bad EGR. Any other ideas or experiences?

I think you've hit upon it...other possible causes would be timing, clogged fuel/air filter, and in rare cases, thermostat stuck open.

A bad TPS have gave me those symptoms without throwing a code. Actually right now I don't like my car throtle in the mornings & I may put a new one. You know when you have a new car that you just turn it on in the morning and stomp on the gas and it feels smoth right away? Usually that's the behaivor I miss. When I replace the TPS I get it back. Anyway those symptoms can be many other things. Just check & check before you buy.

my 86 GT does the exact same thing... (actually i was just going to post a question regarding the problem...) after the car has been sitting for hours without being driven it keeps trying to stall out, and when driving it cold it looses all power at around 2500 rpms and after a second accelerates like it should... (weird). it's not my timming or a vacuum leak.. i was thinking a bad sensor or computer maybe? the reason i think that is because if i let it run for about a minute after starting it up cold, turn it off and then back on it usually runs perfect. (i don't understand why..) any thoughts why? thanx.
