I have read that the th125 weighs in at 165lbs. Does anyone know what the weight of a th325-4l is. I am considering using this type of set-up to install a new motor (longitude wise). If the v8 bolts right up to this tranny I would imagine that a 4.3l will also bolt up. This would save some added weight vs the v8 setup. It might save the trunk as well. Anyone know what type of flywheel that would work in either of these choices (v8 or 4.3l).

Tks, Mike.

Spike, TH125 transmission weight NO WHERE near 165lbs. They weight at least 70 to 90lbs. I know this how? I can't carry anything at 165lbs, but I can carry at least 125lbs. Where did you find this information that it weight at 165lbs?

The info came from: www.en.com/users/thall/olds/oftrn.html

I do notice that it says th125c, may not be the same. Guess not.

Do you happen to know the weight of the th325-4l?

Tks, Mike.

Spike,
I don't know the exact weight of the TH325-4L, but it is a heavy bastard. It's gonna take two guys with big balls to pick it up. It has a cast iron differential housing. Also, a Chevy V8 will not bolt directly to it, neither will a 4.3. You will need a commonly available adapter ($50) to make them work. You can use the standard V8 or 4.3 flexplate. Using the 4.3 as opposed to the V8 will save some weight, and dramatically help F-R balance if the diff is run in reverse rotation (engine pulleys facing rear of car). I'm putting together a web page with lots of pictures and a description of this swap. I'll let you know when it's up.

Thanks for the info rockcrawl. I will be looking forward to more info. I have checked out your site. I will also be following your 4.9l caddy install. I think that the 4.9l would be great in a Fiero but the wiring scares me. I don't really know anything about it. When swapping in the 4.9l do I need the wiring harness and computer from the donner vehicle. I beleive this may be mentioned on your site.

Thanks again, Mike

P.S. Can I go carb. with a 4.9l and forget about wiring problems?

Hey,
Here's the link for the new page on the longitudinal V8, I've still got more work to do there, but it's a start. http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/impala/403/longv8.html

I don't think you'd be able to find a manifold to fit a carb on a 4.9. Besides, these days, fuel injection is the only way to go. Notice at the above page, I started with a carb and switched to a TPI. The wiring isn't too difficult if you have the right manuals.
