I used the Fiero speed sensor. It could be a bad wire or ground, the sensor, or the speedo itself. Good luck, this mod is not for the faint of heart (kind of expensive too). I about gave up on the project a couple of times. I actually jotted down some quick notes about the wiring, which is unusually for me to document anything I do. caution, 84 Fieros might be slightly different.
On the speedo connector under the dash (connector letter--wire color--function):
P--black/white stripe--ground
R--purple/white--speedo
S--yellow--speed sensor to speedo
T--yellow/black--12v switched
U--brown--cruise control
Oh guano, I can't find the other piece of paper that lists the other two connectors found in the back of the instrument panel. Sorry. Warning, this mod was very time consuming and required lots of time. I did it long enough ago where I've forgotten all the little details, but you'll have to cut two round holes in the plastic face cover. The instrument cluster has to be assembled as a unit before you put it back in and I had to literally force it back into it's place in the dash. You usually leave the front trim panel off and put that back on after the cluster is in place, but you can't do it that way with it all together like the way I did.
