My car is driving me nuts!!! I have an '85 GT 2.8 V6 and it is leaking oil EXTREMELY badly!!! It uses about a quart every 30 miles. It smokes out the back like a truckstop waitress. AND it stalls whenever I slow down to a stop.....I've been told it is probably a piston, but it probably is at least two of them because he checked the spark plug wires and there was no difference when he took two of the front ones off. And this is a rebuilt engine that doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it yet.. (don't ever buy a Gopher made rebuilt!) Any suggestions about how to fix the stalling (just in case it is unrelated to the rest of the problems) I'm afraid my starter will go out pretty soon ........

Do you think that oil could be leaking onto the front spark plugs? causing them to wear out?

Just out of curiosity, how badly does a truckstop waitress smoke out the back?

How do your spark plugs themselves look? They could be fouled with oil so badly that they are not firing and hence have little or no noticeable effect when the plug wires are removed. Have you or your mechanic done a compression check? Maybe it's time for a ring or valve job. My first suggestion would be to check the spark plugs and try replacing them if they are fouled and see what that does for your stalling problem.

100,000 miles is quite a bit for a rebuild. Some factory engines don't even make it that far or much past it.

And your stalling problems are almost guaranteed to be related to your engine's mechanical woes.

Sounds a little like my engine before the rebuild(almost done )

One of my cylindes wasent firing because the plug was super caked in burnt oil.

the engine had broken piston rings, Badly burnt valves, Very worn cylinder walls.

All adds up to POOR compression and Lots of burnt oil. My engine didnt like to start had zero power and occasionally stalled.

Hope this helps some.

How to stop the stalling?

Dumb Answer: Turn off the engine, and don't start it again. If it ain't running, it can't stall !

Slightly-less dumb answers:
1) Unplug/disable torque converter clutch, if automatic (just in case).

2) Change to higher-temperature-range plugs, to try to burn off the oil (or use those spark plug "cup" gizmos you screw plugs into
to keep oil off the electrodes. I don't know if they're even made anymore).

A quart every 30 miles?! Don't know if #2 will help that kind of oil consumption. But it will force you to look at the condition of the old plugs, so you'll know which cylinders have the problem.

3) Unplug & remove IAC; wiggle/press IAC plunger to retract it into IAC housing, then reinstall IAC but leave it unplugged. This will give you higher idle speed, to avoid stalling. "Service Engine Soon" light will remind you that you need to accomplish step 4:

4) Plan on car swap/engine swap/ engine rebuild.
