I'm getting ready to replace the shocks and struts on my 85 coupe.

Is it tough to do?

Do I need any special tools?

Any tips?

Thanks!

I did the front shocks. Piece of cake. Just have a haynes manual with you if your not familiar with the job.

I would like to hear from someone who has done the rear struts. Do you need a spring compressor?

I ahve done the rear, and yes you need a spring compressor. Additionly, mark the strut placement for approximate alignment, but when finished make sure your fiero is aligned.

I replaced all mine (shocks and struts)
I took my struts to PepBoys and for $30 They dis-assembled my old and assembled the new struts. I would also recommend to get the MOOG "strut cam bolts" these make adjusting your alignment so much easier.

Easy as anything. Drive the car to a Mr. Goodwrench sevice center and have them do it. You don't even get your hands dirty.

Like they said, shocks can be replaced upside-down with your hands tied behind your back. Struts aren't BAD, but save yourself the cost of a professional install and the trouble of messing with a spring compressor. Once you have the struts removed from the car, take them to a shop and have them mated to your new struts. THEN take them home and bolt them right in! It cost me like 20 bucks at the Firestone here.
