My radiator has a leak.. (tried the stop leak stuff and it would work for a day or two and then begin leaking again). I have an 87 coupe parts car that had a 4 cyl.. will this radiator from this car work in my 85 SE with the V6.. or are the radiators different?

thanks in advanced

Check the parts books at a local store or one of the online stores to confirm it if you want, but I agree with Phil.

if the leaking one is a stick then you can use the automatic one. Plug the tranny tank to prevent contamination from rotting it out. (At the very least, cut the tranny lines and squash them shut. then fold over the flat part.)

Actually the 4-cyl. and the V-6 radiators are not the same. The 4-cyl. one will fit and will work in your V-6, but it may not cool it efficiently enough. The 4-cyl. radiators are single row while the V-6 has a double row core.

I know....I tried putting a 4-cyl. radiator into an '85 GT and compared them side to side. I wound up buying a V-6 one from a fellow forum member so I wouldn't have any cooling problems.

You might just get away with using the 4-cyl. radiator, but be prepared for problems.

V-8 Archie sells a custom 4-core radiator that fits into the stock location in case you want more cooling. I think he wants around $350 for it.

According to the vin # on my 85 SE.. it was orginally equipped with a 4 cyl... it has the v6... so maybe when it was changed, it kept the 4 cyl radiator.. its also an automatic... so.. i may just try to find a v6 radiator... any more suggestions?
