does a code 42 on a dis motor mean the module under the coil packs is bad??

I've gotten that one only once. It was when I started the car and my hand slipped off the key.

If the car is running OK, try checking all the electrical connectors. If anything is loose it might cause this. Check all the fragging grounds, there's nearly a dozen of them all over the block.

That I can tell, other than stupid things like above, only the ECM or the brick could cause this. As far as I can tell DIS motors don't use Tach Filters, at least not as a seperate part. The "brick" consists of the 2 coils, the ingition controller, and the crank pickup.

theogre thanks for the reply. the car hasn't run good for awhile, i still have idle trouble and have replaced everything but the ecm. i do have another "brick" that i could try.

is yours an automatic?

You might have a bad gasket under the TBI. especially in an automatic car. The gasket tends to block the IAC passage when it gets old. In automatics the air cleaner has a nasty habbit of hitting the trunk wall. this messes up the TBI base gasket.

check all the vac lines, and espacially the PCV valve line. clamp the PCV line to the manifold. Don't over tighten the clamp.
