if you want a factory look, go to the junk yard and buy a roof panel with a sunroof opening off of a parts car. you can then swap the roof with yours and have a factory size sunroof

I have done the sunroof swap twice, it is very easy, just watch taking out the old roof, it catches at the bottom of the windshield, I broke mine. Also be carefull not to break the side rails were they meet the top of the roof, Pontiac puts a bunch of RTV there, I also cracked mine on both sides. Other than that everything bolts right up. Don't forget to take the rubber trim strip that is around the hole in the headliner. Also you will need the sunroof tray from the front compartment and the rubber pads that are glued to the hood I think the whole thing cost about $150 bucks to complete.

If you are planning to use the factory roof with the factory sunroof. Be sure to use a fishing line to cut thru the RTV on your old roof... Just like sawing...pull to left to right...that way you won't break the pillars of the old roof..if you still want to keep it...

Well, since I don't have the time/facilities/desire to do this swap, I checked into an aftermarket unit from a local shop here in Southern Ohio. They quoted me two prices ($150 and $250) for different sizes.
Can aftermarket sunroofs be used in the Fiero's roof? Will I have (creaking or leaking) problems?
See, I'm about to buy a 2M4 tonight that has every option I want (except a sunroof). The price is right and it's mechanically sound. However, it's VERY IMPORTANT that I have a sunroof (I like the sunlight and extra air). So, if I can't install an aftermarket unit, I need to be looking at a different car.
Again, TIA ...

aftermarket sunroofs doesn't give you the correct look on the roof of the fiero.. The glass are somewhat smaller... For almost the same price as the factory..Just take your time taking out the old one and putting the factory sunrood in... I did that conversion on my '88 Formula...No leaks!!! just for your info...

I was a van converter for 20 years and i know about putting aftermarket sunroofs in various vehicles. We did some Fieros in the mid 80's, and it was a disaster. Lots of creaking and squeaking, and leaks too. So a sunroof using the factory parts is the ONLY way to go.
Isn't the sunroof on Cliff's GT an aftermarket one. I recall one of the pictures he posted of the front compartment with the "pink" sunroof glass. That glass was smaller than standard issue(plus a different color )Unless that was a picture of someone elses car he posted just for reference. I don't know, Maybe he'll read this thread and let us know how his works(if it's an aftermarket).

All Fieros have the capability of accepting the factory sunroof (Vista Vent). The steel roof already has the opening for it. Consequently an aftermarket sunroof has to fit the hole in your car pretty closely or else it will only have plastic to mount to.
My 88 Coupe has an aftermarket sunroof that was installed by the dealer when the car was new. It's perfectly centered and it doesn't leak unless you blast it directly with the pressure hose at the car wash. However, it is much smaller than the factory sunroof and the headliner was poorly cut during installation (I had to fix it myself).
If you really want a sunroof, go factory. I wouldn't trust the clowns at most aftermarket shops to cut the roof properly.
