I copied this hint from the SCCA driving tips off the web:

"Tires: You've already read that you should put an extra 10 to 15 psi in your tires. The reason for this is to keep your tires from rolling under during hard cornering. But how much is too much? Put chalk on the edges of your tire, in three places around the diameter, and you can see how far over the tire was going during your runs. Bleed out a little if the chalk is still showing on the tread, or add a little more if the chalk has been worn off down the sidewall. The line of worn chalk to remaining chalk should be right at the corner of the tread and sidewall. Keep notes on how many psi you ran, and where the chalk line was, for your next event.

Remember that as you get better and corner harder, you'll need more air to compensate, so keep using the chalk at every event."

I hope this helps... I guess it all depends on what type of driving you do on a daily basis. You should always start off at the manufactures sugusted pressure which should be marked on the side of the tire.

Pretender,
What kind of tires did you get. I am finding that once you get to that size it's hard to run more than 32psi unless your camber is set to "0". You start wearing the insides of the tire. I learned that the hard way.

i got them from sears (faulkin's*spelling?*) i'm running 215/50/15's in the front and the 225's in the rear, i also learned my leson the hard way last time. What ever jiffy lube put in them i guess, well SCREW JIFFY LUBE*another story*, so you reccomend about 32psi? i doubt that my camber is set to 0 because the peps at sears probably set it back to stock stuff when they did the 4 wheel alignment. it says on the recipt that they put 35 in the front but there is no mention about the rear on the paperwork.:0(

Pretender,

Whats the speed rating on those tires?

You can also check tire pressure from the ware on the tire. If your pressure is to low than the outside of the tires will ware more and vise versa.

i'm pretty sure that there "V" rated and on top of that they also have a 30k warr.! It would be to late if i can see the tred wearing away on the sides, know what i mean? I'll see what the tires say today when i change the hub assembly on the front. But i also thought about what if the tires were made for a wider rim? the rear rims on my car a wider then the front.

I have 225s on the back of my 88GT also. They are, unlike Pretender's, 60 series. I run near 40 psi at the autcross track but for regular driving I bring it back down to 34 psi. The camber is set to almost zero on the rear and with this setup the wear is perfectly flat and even. I kept the stock 205/60/15s size up front because the rims are only six inches wide. I decided the front tires needed to stay because with too narrow of wheel tire rollover becomes a much bigger issue and you definatly don't want any slop in the front when you're trying to steer at high speed. The best way to compensate for this is to use a lower profile tire, but if you get too crazy you can change the suspension geometry. And a tire with less diameter has a smaller contact patch. I wouldn't worry too much, Pretender. Just keep the pressures monitered and you won't have a problem.
