I was wondering, how come GM never designed some kind of water gutter that starts at the back of the engine compartment and goes around it and intercects with the trunks water gutter?

when i wash my GT or if i open the rear decklid when there is water on it, it just runs back and onto the motor. That doesnt sound very logic to me to let all the water running on top of that area.

I noticed on the back of the deck lid (undernieth) there is what looks like mounting holes for something. They run across the entire length of the lid.

Couldnt some kind of gutter be mounted to that and at each end have a hose come off of it and run it down the inside of the engine compartment? (like the Trans Am shaker hoods have from the second generation firebirds?).

Or is there something thats sopposed to be back there and mine's missing?

There is supposed/used to be a rubber gutter attatched to the lid and was removed as a recall. I guess it catches on fire.

G25C, those are my words, I said the same thing to my wife one day when we washed the car,... BUT SCCA, I put a rubber gutter of sort back on. I too saw the holes in the rear lid and thought the thing was missing. Should I take it off?

My 86 had it and never caught fire. I would leave it on. I plan to add one to my 88, I mean, how could it catch on fire?

What years had this rubber gutter? Would it be easy to find one in the junkyard in good shape? Or can you buy it somewhere?

G25C,

I used a u-shaped (the rubber) door seal, bought it from home-depot, it`s just weather stripping
