I have an '85 GT automatic with 113,000 miles on it. This car is a dog off the line but once I hit the 3,000rpm it kicks in pretty good. It still kicks butt on other cars. Is this Normal?? What an I do to improve on the low end? Thanks
Well, assuming that everything is working properly, an automatic is a little slower off the line than a manual tranny due to normal slippage in the torque convertor. Is the cam that's in it the original? If someone put a higher duration/higher lift cam into at some point that might cause what you are describing. Installing the right cam is the best way to pump up low end torque, of course at the sacrifice of high end horsepower, but for the street light grand prix, low end torque rules. Headers and a free flowing exhaust will add some low end torque if you don't use too large of header tubes. Too large of a carburetor will also kill your low end, but I'm assuming this is a fuel injected car.

Yes, as far as I know the cam is stock. I bought (stole) this car from a little old lady. I'm thinking of having the engine rebuilt, putting in a Compucam etc. I have very little $$ in this car so what ever I do it's worth it. Thanks

There are some adjustments, like idle bleed off, that's controlled by a solenoid air valve, this can foul the running a little. Also ignition timing can be adjusted. If you already tried this, uhh,be happy it's not the other way around I guess.
