Does anyone know what the GM part number for the black touchup paint for the side mirrors is?? Why is it cars are like magnets for shopping carts in parking lots. BTW, I posted a message about an overcharging condition on my 88GT the other day. Thanks to those who responded. Ended up being a bad ground connection. Also discovered that the voltmeter gauge reads higher than actual as one of the responses had mentioned.
the mirror is simply a flat black as far as I can tell. There is a GM code I'm sure, but it's importance is minor. Odds are that a touch up type thing won't match it no matter what it is, flat black is just like that. (part of the problem is that when flat paint gets old, it also gets loaded with car wax, and other stuff, that screws with the "normal" flat look. something a touchup can't likely match.)
If you loosen the 2 nuts that hold the mirror, easy with the window down, you can simply prep & shoot the whole thing in about 15-30 minutes. Loosening the mirror lets you get is away from the body a smidge so you can tape it off really cleanly.

The paint I use at my body shop for satin (semi flat) black is just a good quality spray can enamal- like krylon or rustoleum. True flat black is just TOO flat and really looks bad when it gets a little wax on it

I just bombed mine with Plasti-kote flat black enamel and they came out great. Has just enough shine to them that I should be able to wax them in the fall. Didn't have to remove mirrors, just masked off everything well then lightly sanded and feathered all knicks and/or chips. Stay away from Plasti-kote clear-coat called "super laquer" for any projects. It splinters and lifts!
I swapped my Red formulas mirrors with some power ones. The black paint was oxidized, and I new that simply repainting would probably have some unwanted results. I sanded and primered them, then painted to match the car. I used Dupli-color GM 398 Bright Red and clear coat. They turned out fantastic, and look much better and more modern appearing (to me) then the old black ones.

About 7 years ago, I painted my decklid grilles with Dupli-color Hi-temp black spray paint. I sanded them with some steel wool first. It looked GREAT, and lasted until this year, I noticed it wearing again. I'll be doing it again as soon as I can find that paint! Seems no one around here sells it anymore! It's not a dull flat black. It has just enough "satin" look to it.

Painted the luggage/BBQ rack with Krylon satin, always use it because it's formulated by Sherwin-Williams,and I've come to know their products to be the best in the industry.Did a whole car once, during high-school,3 coats totall,in 2101 Cherry Red,everyone was asking me who did the paint job.

Did my deck grills with a flat black enamel. Using enamel gives it a slight gloss look. Used same for side mirrors, antenna and door handles. Looking new again!
