Has anyone had any luck with a product made to remove scratches in glass? My drivers side door looks bad and the mechanic at the local bone yard broke the only replacement he had trying to remove it for me! I'd like to try something on it before calling the Fiero store. TIA.
yes, it is posible to polish glass. (Sorry to everyone my typing stinks tonight....... it's been a day......)
Pollishing glass can be done. it's like pollishing anything else that's very hard...... I.E. it's very time consuming to do it right. people have been pollishing glass for hundreds, maybe thousands, of years. All of the early telescopes had hand pollished glass in them.
the product you are looking at may be completely sound. (you don't say what one you looked at.) the final result is up to how much time and effort you are able/willing to give it.

The side glass is much softer I've heard than the front. When I asked around about this I was told that it was probably worth it on the sides, but not the front because of the time involved. One of my other cars has a $700 piece of glass in front,so I might polish regardless. How much is a Fiero widshield these days?
Geez guys, $700 for a windshield? Get real! Buy an old junker Fiero for a few hundred that has good glass, part it out by selling all the good items off it to your buddies who own Fieros and you'd end up making money off it. I know where there's a 84 or 85 model that runs and drives for less then $700 (all the glass is good). Unfortunately, the interior is trashed and the rear fascias has some damage, but hey, the drive train alone is probably worth the money. Heck, I might buy if myself, if he'll come down some more on the price. I've already got two silver Fieros, maybe I should buy a third one for a parts car too. Shoot, I'd even give you a bargain on the windshield for a mere $500 (hehehe). There are two Fieros in a junkyard near where I work. Here in the midwest, Fieros are sitting around everywhere.
Check out this link: www.hands-on.org/PFKB/ people are selling Fieros parts and whole cars there all the time. This guy sells lots of used Fieros parts all the time: www.geocities.com/MotorCity/1930/wwfl.html but I don't know if he has glass. I've seen whole Fieros sell on eBay for $300 to $500.
My 86 needed a new windshield to pass inspection last year. It cost me $110 installed. It was installed at 3:00pm on a Monday the next day going to lunch at noon a nice dumptruck driver flipped a rock and chipped it for me. Not even 24 hours later. The chip was almost dead center on the bottom and has since spread in both directions the full length of the glass.

$110 to $185 is more like what I'd expect to pay for a new windshield installed. For those that live out in the middle of nowhere (like me) it'll pay to drive a little ways to a larger town and shop around. By the way, that geocities link that I posted earlier was not the right URL for the used Fiero parts, sorry.

Ahhh, that explains it. I reread your post just now and indeed it say "one of my other cars"...oops, I guess I need to get some reading glasses. Sorry, my mistake.
hell,,,,, I can't type, you can't read...... no wonder we all get along so good. we're all "differantly abled." :) ({[Like Fiero owners are politically correct either.]})

I'm the analytical type, constantly proof reading, last job was to write assembly plans for airplanes,so excuse the lack of sponteneity! Does anyone elsemake a windshield besides PPG? I noticed mine to be a bit on the low quality side, compared to European cars I've owned.Could have easily gone through one per year, where my '74 Ascona(Opel)was still mint after nearly 20 years.Part of it is the exposure from being low,however...
To the best of my knowledge, only Ford makes it's own auto glass. All other U.S. car makers glass is usually from PPG, or who ever else is cheap.
I can tell you, Ford went that track becuase of exactly the reasons you don't like PPG glass. None of my Fords glass is/was as bad as my Fiero. Not even the 80 Pinto that has had the **** kicked out of it after close to 200,000 miles. The Fiero windscreen is so bad that if the sun hits it wrong I can't see the wipper blades, let alone the road.
