(My first ever trashcan post) Without opening this back up-some basic questions about car shows in general. (hey, I live hundreds of miles from the nearest city that holds a car show, so I don't know) 1. When your car is judged, does only one judge look at it-or do several, & their combined score= what you end up with?2. I read references to judging up or down. Judging down-Does this mean a car would start out with xxx(perfect) and then a point or 2 is deducted for each imperfection to get your score? If the judge(s) are judging up, what do they start with? 3. Are there no set standards how they are going to do things, as far as up or down? Or is it up to each individual judge? 4. For those that enter a lot of shows-do you ever 'learn' a judge well enough to know what he is going to look for specifically? 5. Are there rules for this, or is it just a kinda up to each show how it is done? In other words, If Gotham City batmobile club held a show, can they tell hired judges-"Hey, we want you to walk around the cars, not them drive to you." 6. Do judges make good money? (rehtorical question) real question-How far in advance do contestants know which format is going to be used-usually? 7. Are there really no set standards for judging nationwide? It would seem, that the clubs could all get together & decide what they want and the judges would follow their directives. Appreciate any sincere replies.

I am more than sure that the inconsistencies in judging were noted by CFOGi and MFC and will be remedied. The next show will be better. I have met many of the Club reps and, can say from experience, they are stand-up people. The only problems we actually had were the judges and the "rules". Note that the rules weren't officially available to anyone around here. Club officials were clueless as well. Call it instinct, but the moment they were talking of taking cars through a lane, I knew there was going to be trouble. Many of the cars were set up at their particular place on the lot to be judged. Many weren't moving (PR, Boomtastic). I was there. I was also there when they told Shawn that they will come TO the car to judge it. The key here is Integrity. If they told these owners what was going to happen, it should have been followed, period. Yes, a lot of last minute changes were made. Apologies should be part of those last-minute changes. Everyone has learned from this show. Let's leave it at that. There were a lot of people that were unfairly judged. In the future, I think this will be taken care of. Does anyone else think that Hulki and Parki should have been judges??

As far as my opinion goes, the best "judging" I have seen at shows is peer judging. Hired judges tend to look at cars with blinders on. They don't look at the car as a whole. They tend to specifically look for defects and rate the cars low for them. Does anyone know if the hired judges really knew anything about Fiero's? If the hired judges were grading cars incorrectly (marking low numbers thinking this was actually rating them high) Then the judges obviously were all not on the same page. I was at one show where they had hired judges, They walked around to each car as a group. I got dinged for not having tire shine on my tires. Granted shiny tires look good, But I didn't spend all my hard earned cash on a stiff suspension and matched tires to spray them down with slick silicone. When I judge cars, I look at what has been done. These are 15-20 year old cars that many drive daily, Not a bunch of trailer queens. They need to be judged that way. Most hired judges are use to looking at professionally frame-up restored/customized cars. I really hope that this doesn't dampen anyones opinion of going other shows. |

THAT........is one fantastic piece of information..........................I wonder if it was considered when judges were hired ?

I cannot believe people are bitching like this. So what some bad judging happened. It happens at virtually every show. I just wish I could have been there, which I would have except of an ill mother and a few financial issues at present. Otherwise I would have gladly spent the $3000 it would have cost me to be there for the 3 days. Get some perspective those who are whining, you got to attend what is probably the largest ever Fiero event staged and seen things many will never see ever.------------------ White 86 GT 4 Speed Manual - Black 86 GT Auto The Fiero Shop International - Jade Web Design If you appreciate my contribution please give me a rating
